Why can’t I write in or join a group?

Groups and channels run on Telegram. Each group’s admins and Telegram’s own limits decide who can write or join; Luckgram shows the client’s message for each case.

Why can’t I send messages in a group, only read it?

The message field or the error names the reason:

• You have not joined: the field shows Join or Join Group.
• Admins restricted you, sometimes until a date. Wait or ask an admin.
• Writing is closed for everyone in that group. Only its admins can open it.
• Slow mode is on: one message per interval; the app shows when.
• An admin banned you. Only that group’s admins can let you back.
• Your Telegram account is limited after spam reports: “you can only send messages to mutual contacts” or “restricted from posting to public groups”. The last section on this page explains what to do.

These are Telegram rules, so another Telegram app shows the same restriction.

Why can’t I join more groups or channels? “Too many groups and channels”

Telegram limits how many channels and supergroups one account can join. A Telegram Premium account gets a higher limit. Telegram Premium is Telegram’s own subscription; Luckgram Premium is a separate plan (see Plans, Gems, and referrals).

At the limit, the app tells you to leave some groups or channels before joining a new one. On iPhone and iPad it lists your most inactive groups and channels to choose from. The limit applies to each Telegram account separately.

Why does joining a group keep loading or fail?

• The group is private, or the invite link has expired. You need a new invite link.
• The group approves new members. After Request to Join, you are added only once an admin approves the request.
• The app is still connecting. Connecting… or Waiting for network at the top of the screen means no connection to Telegram yet. See Luckgram won’t open or keeps loading.

Why can I only send messages to mutual contacts?

Telegram restricts an account when people mark its messages as unwanted and Telegram’s moderators agree. Private messages to someone who has not saved your number then fail with “Sorry, you can only send messages to mutual contacts at the moment.” You may also see “Sorry, you are currently restricted from posting to public groups.” On iPhone and iPad, More Info in that alert opens @SpamBot.

While it lasts, Telegram still lets you:

• write to people who have your number saved as a contact;
• reply to whoever messages you first.

How long it lasts. The first time, it most likely ends after a few days. Each repeat lasts longer, and writing to strangers can be closed for good. Telegram does not end it early on request.

Think it is a mistake? Write to @SpamBot and explain. A new account can also be restricted because of the number’s previous owner or because it is a virtual number.

Can’t send anything at all? If the chat list says Your account is frozen, Telegram restricted the account after complaints: you can read your chats but can’t send messages. Tap the notice for details and Submit an Appeal. The appeal goes through @SpamBot and must be sent before the date shown, or the account is deleted.

Only one person can’t be reached? Some people accept messages only from their contacts and Telegram Premium subscribers; the app then says only Premium subscribers can message them. Others ask for Telegram Stars for messages from people not in their contacts. That is their choice, not a restriction on your account.

The restriction is on your Telegram account, not on the app, so every Telegram app, Luckgram included, shows it too.
